Here's an interesting item from 1979 when Spooner was recording their debut EP at Hedden West studio in Schaumburg. An instrumental mix of one of the songs from that EP. I don't recall if the vocals were not yet recorded, or what. It's entirely possible that Doug hadn't quite finished 100% writing the lyrics, yet. Sing along if you know the words. Be the hit of your next karaoke party.

Both of these are from the September 4, 1982 "Friday Night Live from Teddy's" broadcast on 93QFM. Educated guesses for the song titles are encouraged in the Comments!

Spooner - Unknown Song from 1983

This is the second last tune of the live broadcast from Teddy's in 1983, and I have no idea what's the title of the song.  It seems more like a cover than a Doug Erickson original, but what few lyrics I've been able to decipher have not Googled up up any promising candidates...



UPDATE: It's probably called "Hey Boy", written by Doug (per Dave Benton).

According to my incomplete documentation, this cover version of the first song on Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) LP is more or less thirty years old. Remixed last winter, I tweaked the EQ and decided it needed a little more stereo flanging this afternoon. Still not quite definitive, but it's getting there. Another thirty years oughta do it. If there's anything left to sit on, as Frank used to say.

Well, our foster canary went back to his owner yesterday, so I'm happy I recorded a half hour of his chirping last spring (and edited it down to five minutes) for those times when only Canary Music will do. Enjoy!

BTW, he's apparently just called "Birdie" by his owners, but we decided he needed more name than that... Considering his inventive singing style, we decided he should have some appropriately musical sobriquet, and settled on Giacomo Puccini, the Italian opera composer. "Pucci" (or poochie) for short.

Mellotron Mania

Some pretty amazing Mellotron music for free download can be found here. A fellow named Mike Dickson owns a Mellotron M400, a mixer, some computer with recording software, a measure of musical ability, and apparently a certain amount of time on his hands. So, he recorded All-Mellotron versions of Holst's "Mars, The Bringer of War" (inspired by King Crimson's assaults on the tune nearly 40 years ago), swell interpretations of Adagios by Albinoni and Barber, Bach's famous "Air on The G String", Taco Bell's Pachelbel's Greatest Hit "Canon in D major*", and so on... Very nicely done, and worth every penny!
